When you press the starter button it spins the engine for half a second then the engine stops turning and the starter keeps on going.
I suspected a hydrolock so i removed all the plugs still the same.
I can spin the starter clutch gear both ways manually with my hand and sometimes it would lock going to one side. Should i be able to spin the starter clutch gear both ways at any time?
Is there anyway to fix the current one?
Are the part numbers the same for the 600/750?

Thanks for the info. Forgot to mention its a gsxr 1000. Do you think the 600 starter clutch would fit or one from another model like TL1000. Trying to look for a second hand one. The new ones are very costly.

Yeh, that starter clutch is kafunted. You should not be able to turn it both ways like that.

Part number is the same between 2001 GSXR 600 and 750.

Based on my experience, they are not rebuildable due to fine machining.

12600-35860 Is the part number. Get your wallet out, or get used to push starting buddy!

Thanks for the info. Will just order new parts cant start risking the same thing with a second hand part.I have no idea about the bike's history its an import. Will just get the parts and complete the full service and check up.

Ok. The one you want is 12600-40810. It is actually the new part number for the 12600-35860 as well. It's the same starter clutch across the three models from what i can see. Unfortunately, it seems unique to the GSXR's. I would have thought the Bandit, GS or GSXF would have been a match, but they are different as well.

They do wear out, some bikes have been known to have bad ones. But the GSXR i dont think is one of them! Who knows what made yours fail, there is not a lot you can do to look after it, other than changing oil when recommended with the correct grade of oil. You had an oil change lately?. It doesnt have friction plates like a drive clutch, just pawls that run down ramps and jam the shaft when it's turned one way.

Something else to watch for, is that where the starter clutch shaft fits into the cases is not flogged out. That can happen if you have been running with fuck all oil.
