so, i was advertising my bike through firesport, cbr250 and bikesales. and this guy emailed me asking me about my bike . this is what he said

Hello,
Is this bike still available for sale?, kindly get back to me now with
its condition and your final price..

i replied and he said:

Hi Peter,
Thanks for mailing back, i am happy to read from you and i want you to
know that am buying this for Dad.......I would have prefer to come and
inspect the bike and pay you in cash but i cant due to the nature of
my work,I'm an oceanist,i am at sea right now, and I am glad you
accepted my offer.I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i do
not have access to my bank account online, but i have it attached to my
PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay,all
i will need is your PayPal email address to make the payment, and if
you do not have a PayPal account yet,its pretty easy to set one up at
www.PayPal.com.au..
I will be expecting your email.I have a pick up agent that will come
for the pick up after payment has been sorted.
Email me here.

i read on the forums, that these scams are ideal. what is an oceanist anyway?

This is, in fact, a scam older than time itself. You see, First Satan snake gave some hussy an apple. The bitch took the apple and well, a hoe being a hoe she wasn't satisfied with her current situation that included free food, no strings attached sex on demand, the ability to walk around naked and not have to worry about other skanks staring her down from the next door window and an absence of sexually transmitted infections; y'know, the good old days..then her son was born. Then the computer was born. Then the internet. Then that little bastard learnt to scam from his mum.
And that is how a scam was born and this is how it works.
^ lol
ive herd of this kind of scamming before, when i was looking for buy my babyblade. the dude i went to had similar things done to him. they ask you to ship a bike and email a fake paypal receipt with the funds.. Bikesales were crackin down on that, but i dont know how far they got lol.

CBRpledge, u should write a book on that shit... be a good read haha. ;)
that's NOT what they do.

they use your name, address, paypal address and phone number and whatever else and steal your paypal account details.

then they buy whatever they want, and/or sell your details.
lol. thats pretty funny..
ive had some people sending me similar.. fcuk that !

PAY UP FRONT BUDDY!

You just won Wednesday.

Congratulations.
Yep .. I had the same thing happen here when I was selling my SV650. Twats ..

If anyone falls for this shit though, they deserve to be scammed really .. you have to be retarded or have to have lived under a rock for a few decades (since that bitch and the apple?) to not be able to see through it.
I just received this same scam through tradingpost.com...
Only posted it up yesterday and already two sms messages from seperate numbers requesting I reply by email, followed by;

"Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the condition and the price,i won't be able to come for the inspection due to my work basis.i will be paying you through PayPal,please do get back to me with your PayPal details so i can proceed with payment and contact the courier agent that will come to pick it up and deliver to my location.
Await your reply....."

and

"Am buying this goods and will want the shipment handled by my shipping agent, but am going to be responsible for the shipping bills. The item is going to be picked up by the agent after i have made the full payment via pay pal.I just need you to send me a money request from your payment pay pal account.so that i can make the payment for the goods and we can arrange for pick up after this is done."

I know it's obviously a scam to most, but the fact that they send you an sms, it gets you thinking, but yeah, you'd have to be a sucker to follow through with anything.

Tell them they can have the bike for free because you just pissed on the battery.
I had the reverse happen to me when i enquired about a car..

they want you to pay upfront or something, and it was with western union so i e-mailed back saying i needed a dollar to sign up.

They wrote back telling me that i didnt need to pay to join. they got really pissed actually because i think they thought i was going to pay $10,000 for a sight unseen car.. LOL

Anyways, didn't get anything out of them, but points if anyone else can.. even just $0.50 - they would probably do it lol..

Shit, I'll even give you fiddy cents if you pull it off.

This forum is a scam, I signed up to get help with bikes instead all that was on offer consisted of hapless noobs who have no further interests beyond hacking each others accounts, adjusting each others' bra straps to maximum tightness and upgrading their bikes to compensate for lack of real stick.
If it happened to me, I would agree to it, make a new paypal address and give the fucker a false address.
Ah yes, I have had a few of these recently; I play with them a little:

Hi Kristen,

I asked my friend who works in the circus (coincidentally also as a lion tamer but he does not have the ability that I do to deepthroat cucumbers) about selling over PayPal and he said that I should be careful because sometimes people use it to steal bikes or something, he said in order to make sure that I know who is on the other side of the transaction maybe I could have them send me a photograph of themselves with something that I have asked for in the photo - so that I know who I am talking to. Could you please send a photo of yourself holding a piece of paper with the sentence 'Chicken surprise is a lovely dish' on it? After this I will give you my Paypal email address and my address to pick up the motorbike.

Sorry to be difficult but I just want to make sure that this is a safe transaction!

Thanks,

Dave

Yes I enjoyed it very much, although to be honest after the incidents with the bus and the theatre for the malaysia day celebrations I was almost too put off to perform (I was over there working in the travelling circus as when I am not riding motorcycles I am a lion tamer. Lion tamers are not usually so hard to find that one cannot be found locally but I have the additional ability of being able to swallow an entire cucumber which is a huge hit with the ladies in the crowd. This is why I am now in Mexico with a terrible need for Pesos.).

Sounds good; is a friend going to come and look at the bike? I have to be honest; my price is not very negotiable. $12,300 Australian dollars is worth 140,872.52 Mexican Pesos at today's exchange rate (about 35,484.56 Ringgit I believe). Is this ok?

On a personal note, what are you doing in Malaysia? Where are you staying? I once went travelling to Malaysia; it's a beautiful country! I had one very embarassing incident there though; i was on a tour bus to Kuala Lumpur to watch the Malaysia Day celebration and asked my friend why we werent traveling in the bus lane and he replied, "because its for buses with 8 wheels and this bus only has 6." So when the bus driver moved into the bus lane i yelled out to him that he wasnt allowed in it as it was for buses with 8 wheels and this bus only had 6. But thats not all. When we arrived at the theatre my friend looked under his chair i asked him what he was doing, where he replied,"looking for the lucky door prize." after looking under my chair i then yelled out to hundreds of people to look under their chairs to see if they had the lucky door prize. Looking back now i realize how stupid i can be at times.

I can only conclude this transaction only via paypal,i have been burnt via cheque and bank transfer before, that is why i selected paypal(www.paypal.com.) as a mode of payment because paypal is the best online payment,so both of us could be on the safer side,i am a woman of integrity.i am honest and don`t cheat people out of their money,i own my company that have a 25 number of people working for me,awaiting your decision because i really need to pursue this buy sincerely.
Thanks

Hi Kristen,

This is no problem but you should know in advance that I prefer to take Mexican Pesos as payment as I am currently overseas myself! You are still able to view the bike at my parents house in Sydney though. What sort of pictures did you want?

Cheers,

Dave

Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, I am pleased with your price but I want you to get back to me with more pictures of it because i am presently in Malaysia on business trip and could not come over to check it out,but no worries as i am willing to handle the pick up of this gsxr through a legitimate shipping agent based in Malaysia, it will be picked up after payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need this gsxr urgently. Hope to read from you asap.

What happens if you let them transfer the money, withdraw it all and then tell their shipping agent to get fucked when/if they turn up?

Murphy's law dictates that if you do this it'll turn out that it really is some dude working on an oil rig who genuinely wants to buy the bike and sends you real money, and then you'll be charged, go to prison, and gain several new boyfriends.

Tempted by the idea of new boyfriends? :p

Justin.
the whole purpose of the scam is that the money is from a stolen credit card - so it will be reversed by the cc company or police.
