Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can shed a bit of light on the subject of brake master cylinders. What are the symptoms that a master cylinder needs a rebuild? At the moment Im feeling like theres a small bit too much travel in my front brake lever before the brakes bite. The adjuster thing does not solve the problem.

I have braided brake lines on and the system has been bled. I tried leaving the system pressurised overnight to see if any residual air might make its way out. So I cable-tied the lever to the throttle handle and left it. Thing is 10 minutes later the system has lost its pressure and I can pull the lever in even more.

Am I right in guessing this is a good symptom that the master cylinder could do with being refurbished or is this normal?

Yes, you are right. This is a common indicator that the master needs a rebuild; fluid is leaking past your seal(s).
