i've been having electrical problems with my '97 cbr250rr for a while now and posted up a thread about it on the old forum. the battery won't charge while the bike is running, meaning i'll be riding along and then all-of-a-sudden dead battery.

i've used my multimeter to check all the wiring which is fine, i've cleaned all the various plugs, replaced the battery and now replaced the reg/rec and still nothing doing.

i figure its something to do with the alternator but i've run outta money and time and i'm kinda fed up with it now so i'm interested in taking it to a decent mechanic who knows cbr250's

SO can anyone recommend a decent mechanic [in syd] either around ryde or in the northern beaches?

cheers

What's the voltage at the battery when the bike is running?

was in a better mood today and did some more fiddling and managed to start and run the bike with a jump off my car. it started a bit rough but then fired up nicely and i went for a spin around the block a few times before it died 15min later going uphill, but i had been getting a bit excited and revving up around 15k rpm...

i replaced the reg/rec with one i bought new from ecliptech [eclipse] so i'm confident thats not the issue however the battery is only reading about 11.5V so i figure its a dud and if replaced my problems should be a thing of the past?

Have you checked the wiring to the reg/rec and made sure there is no meltage on the wires going to the plug? Or the plug isn't charred etc? If that's ok, then best contact this Eclipse fella and get him to send you out a replacement

well i've taken the bike to brian connor in brookvale and he found that the stator itself is shagged and that its taken my nice new reg/rec with it! so its off to be recoiled and i'll be hitting up eclipze for a new reg/rec!

if all goes well the bike will be back on the road in a bit over 2 weeks
