Right hard to explain what I want here but in my quest to enhance my mechanical skillzor I'm looking for some form of working bike engine to strip and rebuild so I can learn.

The thing is that I'll be welding (once I learn how) a frame to just hold the engine so really what I'm looking for is a crashed bike that has all the auxilleries to allow me have a functioning running engine. So cooling, ignition, carbs (or injectors but I doubt in on my budget :p) and whatever other systems are needed.

So does anybody have or know of a wrecked bike that someone would let go for a 200 - 300 euro?

Try donedeal.ie.
Buy something common that is easy for parts, four stroke and I4 or Vtwin.
Cbr 400 engine would be a good buy.
A mate of mine sold a 400 race bike today that would have been perfect.
Building a frame is very hard, i would buy a frame and different engine and modify it by welding as a frame from scratch is near impossible.
Try something like a vfr400 frame with an sv 650 engine! Handling and tourque!:)

Cheers, sorry I don't mean I'll be welding a frame from scratch I mean that I'm just trying to increase my knowledge on bike engines so I don't care the state of the bike coz I'm going to throw all the rest away and just mount up the engine so it runs standalone. I've already taken a goosed 600cc engine apart as a trial run so I think I'm ready for a rebuild attempt now :D

Is that 400 you're talking about AJ's(/your) old one? Saw it on donedeal alright and was seriously contemplating it. Could have bought the whole thing then sold off the bits I didn't need to get a bit of money back. Felt a bit bad doing that though coz from it's history it seems to be very well setup so would be a bit of waste
