Is the dip stick in the MC22 magnetic?

mate of mine just called in a panic... he went to check his oil level and found that the dip stick is not attached to the oil cap. To his memory it was there the last time he checked and bike hasnt been used since then.

can someone please check if the dip stick is magnetic.. so that he can try and fish it out before he goes and takes the entire engine casing off.

oh dear thats actually pretty funny, Im just imagining a facial expression of bewilderment followed by so horrified realization.

In answer to the question, Im fairly certain that the dipstick is just plain steel and you should be able to fish it out. Otherwise just pop the engine cover off.

Yes, it is just plain steel. I can picture your mate trying to fish it out with a pair of tweezers like the game "Operation". Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Tell you mate to turn the engine on.
The dipstick will just get broken down to lots of little pieces of metal and simply disappear.

I didn't think there was a dipstick in the oil cap.The oil is checked using the sight glass. The cap is only used for refilling.

The 250 doesn't have a sight glass, hence the dual purpose hole for filling oil and dipstick for oil level

Well its been so long since I worked on a cibby I forgot it had a dipstick and not a glass sight.

Same here. I had my 250 over 8 years ago. I do remember a guy coming into work all worried cause his dipstick had come off the cap and wanted us to pull the engine apart. Luckily we realised that model didn't have a dipstick before we did any major work on it. He just never realised that there was never one there to begin with.
