I didn't think there was a dipstick in the oil cap.The oil is checked using the sight glass. The cap is only used for refilling.

Same here. I had my 250 over 8 years ago. I do remember a guy coming into work all worried cause his dipstick had come off the cap and wanted us to pull the engine apart. Luckily we realised that model didn't have a dipstick before we did any major work on it. He just never realised that there was never one there to begin with.
