Leaving bike on rear paddock stand?

14445 Views 13 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Chrissybenn
Will it damage anything if i leave my bike on the rear paddock stand while im not riding it?

e.g. oil pooling in one part of the engine or prolonged pressure on the front forks?

Whats your opinion?

i hope not because i leave mine on the stand all the time.
I left mine on a stand for about a month and a half...
I've had my R1 on front and back stands for almost 3 months now. It wasnt an issue when i lost my licence and didnt ride thru my 3 month suspention, i dont see it doing any harm.
i don't really see how it can be harmful.
read stand & front head stand, it wont be using the forks at all
Its not a problem at all... its sitting on the forks normally.

Maybe you should think about the abuse you put it through on the road... you probably generate a ton or so of load on the front and rear just riding over a speed bump normally and hitting potholes or manhole covers at speed probably twice that amount...

When you're blipping hard under brakes most of the engine oil is right at the front of the sump and you're generating phenominal loads inside the engine as the revs shoot up.

Seriously, when they're moving they're subject to forces that you'd never even dream of. It doesn't matter too much how you sit it when its stopped so long as you don't kick it over on its side :p
just make 100000% sure that your pick up spools are correctly tightened.

Wouldn't matter at all, Your bike is resting on it's natural position. I have kaneg stands and they are a bit off center for some reason.... so I am a bit warey of them... but your bike should be fine.
Might be better for the tyres if they are off the ground, rather than taking the weight for long periods on one small patch.
on another note having the the bike on both stands for a long time could cause problems with the shocks being extended for so long?
my mate had his skyline on stands for a couple of months, when he got it down and drove it his shocks were super stiff to the point they wouldnt compress at all. suspension guys say it was coz they arent designed to be "hanging" for so long. cost him a bling set of suspension that did.
bikes may be different though. i dunno just a thought.
no it shouldnt be a problem! cause then that would be stupid, why would bike manufacturers create side stands if it were to cause harm to our engines.

if you bothered to read the topic mate, you would have realised that it says "rear paddock stand", not side stand.

seriously how hard is it?
