MC22 - 1990 - Front shock/suspension options

Hey guys,

My first post on the CBR250 forums. I have a MC22 babyblade and I had a unfortunate accident a few weeks back :(

Long story short but I am chasing up some options/replacement shocks for my bike. I have a serve dint in the bottom left casting of my bike. This is leaking fluid and i need to find a replacement option.
I have done some research and it looks like the vj22 rvg shock upside down is a option/upgrade for my MC22. Otherwise I am chasing down some replacement shocks.

What are my options and what prices are we looking at? I am located in Brisbane, Australia. Any hope would be great, thanks in advance.

Regards,
Adam

Shocks go in back, forks are in the front. NSR250 fork conversion is another option.

Excellent. I see a lot of information about a lot of work getting the NSR250 and VJ22 shocks to work as they are USD.
What would my cheapest option be? Replace with stock OEM or go USD? I only plan on keeping the bike another 6-7 months until I get off my RE and then I can get my full license.
Modifying is rarely the cheapest option...

i would say you can fit pretty much any USD fork... some will require custom steering steems to be machined and stuff like that.

if you stay within the honda line up they almost all have the same steem bearing sizes so it would definitely give you more chances of them being bolt-on. The rc51 and cbr954 (or was it 929) fits pretty good apparently. I personaly fitted ZX10r forks to mine. Lots of work had to be done for them to fit tho.
for 7 months just replace and service.

I'd be scouring eBay and Gumtree if I were you.

Many guys popup each month selling parts for CBRs.
One is bound to have a blown engine bike with forks which are perfect, then it's just un-bolt and re-bolt the new ones in.

Make sure you follow the manual and torque the fork bolts correctly otherwise you risk pinching the fork leg stanchions.

The manual also advises how far from the top your forks stick out from the triple clamp or head stem, whichever it's called.

And it'll also advise you how to put the wheels/axle/calipers on correctly and torqued correctly.

Get a torque wrench!
Benz Master is right. It would be a very rare case where modifying would be cheaper than a straight replacement. You can't just consider the forks and triples which would probably be an equivalent cost to a used set of 250 forks. You would also need to change everthing that bolts onto the forks. i.e. brake calipers, brake lines, mudguard, wheel, brake disks, axle & spacers, clipons and possibly master cylinder. All that stuff will likely double the cost of getting a spare set of forks to replace your crashed set.

It can be done, no doubt about that. Zane, Bluevitz, Benz Master and myself have all swapped modern USD front ends onto our mc22s. But it definitely isn't the cheap option to get a bike back on the road...

Is there any particular front end that will bolt straight up to the mc22 cbr250rr without modifications..
stick with honda. And use some forks from a bike that uses the same steem bearings than the CBR (most hondas share those same bearings)

As for steem length tho i dont know... maybe you can just go out and measure some bikes to find one with similar length.
Can you just cut the stem to length and is that what guys do?
What has to be machined the thread for the stem bolt?
I like the gold gsxr forks
well, when the stem is too short you need to make a custom one to replace it (that's what i had to do to fit ZX10 forks on mine). If the stem is too long and bearing diameters are good, you might be able to just use a spacer. Depends on so many factors...
Does anyone reckon the triple tree and the thingy below it from the ZX2R (Kawasaki's version of the cibby) will fit in the MC22 for USD fork mod?
