hey all,

Im looking to replace the OEM battery in my 06 fireblade. Most places are asking roughly $250-300 for the OEM Yuasa YTZ10S - just curious if theres a good alternative for cheaper or should I suck it up and pay for the Yuasa?

Other battery brands I've come across that places have recommended/tried selling me are Dynomaster, Dynavolt, and MotoBatt which are approximately $120 but I'm not sure what to go for, any ideas would be much appreciated.

I reckon it's worth going the Yuasa, the standard one in my zx6r lasted until the end of last year, so thats like 6 years of service that's pretty farkin good imo! The cheap shit ones don't last like that!

There's a brand that's actually made by yuasa, but much cheaper. Pretty sure that it's called katana.

ok thanks... i'll do abit of googling on katana.. if i cant find much, might end up having to go with the yuasa i think...

using a multimeter with battery connected to the bike, whats the lowest voltage the battery should be reading?

and if u crank the bike to start/load the battery up, whats the lowest voltage it should dip down to roughly before people replace their battery?

From personal experience, I'd rate Yuasa and Odyssey.

That said, battery maintenance is the key to any battery lasting.
And a good charging system obviously.

I had katana battery in my trail bike think it cost $70 back in the day, bout 3 years ago my brother now has the bike and the battery is still going

I didn't realise batteries were such a big deal. I just take my old battery to battery world and ask them for the cheapest one in the same size.

On a slightly related topic, does anyone know if you can take a battery to a place like Batteryworld and can they test it to see how good it is?

Not just a simple voltage test (I can check that with my multimeter), but a more 'in depth' test.

im pretty sure they do a load test for free, or a very small charge (lol, charge )
should only take about 30 seconds.
or you could just take it to a workshop and ask nicely, most workshops will have a load tester

batteryworld will test them. They did mine for free but i was buying stuff in-store.

Turned out not to be the battery, I then found out from the previous owner that the battery was less than a 1 year old. I now have 2 fairly new batteries, one i about a month old. Willing to sell either one if anyone is interested, retail price is $250-280, so make an offer on either of them.
