Rear dampeners

So Ive got my rear rim off at the moment of my bike. Ive only had it about 18 months and dont exactly know what has/hasnt been looked after on it previously.

When I took my rear sprocket off, I noticed all six of my dampeners are broken. Not sure if they're also suppose to be rubber/soft, but they seem pretty brittle & hard.

I got told you should replace them now and then but I'm just wondering if this is a big issue and how soon do I need to fix it ?

What exactly do the rear dampeners do besides have a little "give" for the sprocket ?

Need a bit of help

they help absorb the force that is placed on the wheel so that nothing breaks.

if they are stuffed or seem stuffed you should replace them as they are pretty important.

i think they are called your cushion drive or something along that line.
If thats all they do they might be ok for a while because they have literally split into two.... ?

I will replace them just wasn't sure if I should ride at all in the state they're in....

Any ideas of difficulties ordering these for a mc19 or price?
they will be fine so long as you make sure they're in place properly when you put your drive hub back in.

the parts that are broken simply hold them in place, of course your should really look to replace them as you could possibly lose one as there is nothing to hold them in place when you take your drive hub off.

you should be able to get them from a wreckers, failing that just order new ones from your local bike shop.

of course this is only my opinion and is what i would do.
yeah, as scotty said its called the cush drive.
as long as they're not so bad that they are giving you freeplay in your rear sprocket you might be ok to leave them for a while.
I have never seen any for sale though.

If you find that you get a bit too much "snatch" on takeoff, you will need new ones...

As in your cush drive rubbers?

Mine are all snapped on the cibby, just put em back in the right way and don't stress about it.
hahah Snatch...? Nice...

Is that the technical term?

Cheers for the info guys... just wasn't sure... :headbang:
