I'm just wondering if there are major differences to the Ohlins rear shocks, as in are they the same size and the only differences with them are the linkages that connect them to the bike.....or are they built completely different for each type or bike and have different lengths?! Just wondering

Cheers,
Owen

At at guess I would say they're specific to a bike or a number of bikes, not interchangable like you thought end cans were... :)
hahah well they fitted with money!!! money is the resolution to all problems!! :p

there must be a definied distance between the 2 points where they are attached or something like that as i have seen measurements of these 2 points...ah well that one i was bidding on yesterday is gone....so i am going to have to either rape someone for it or think of something else....i did see a standard one on there for fuck all so i might get that until i see another ohlins one!

Owie, I told you that you need to cut down on the Pies ;-)

Besides the linkages (eye/eye, eye/fork, etc) I'd think that there were other differences like length, springs, etc

some shocks may be interchangable between individual bike models (00 to 06 r1's i think would be one example) but they do vary in lenghts and mounting points.. of course if you have a smart suspension tuner he might be able to adjust shaft lengths to suit different bikes and linkages.. bikes like post 04 6rr's and 1000rrs would have a fairly different set up tho to other bikes because of the pro link swing arm. fitment aside tho, there would be defferances in internal valving of the shock that may or may not suit the individual bike and thats the biggest problem. after all, having an ohlins thats not set up for the bike is like having a swiss watch and setting it so it runs 2hrs late :p

From what I've seen the pistons and bodies are common accross families and the externals are essentially swap out items, ie you can put a different push rod in or put a different reservoir on etc. much the same as any other shock manufacturer.

cheers cerby and drew for zie info. I think i'll see about just picking up a standard OME part (talking with Colum last night) second hand on fleeeeebay for cheap....cause i'm skint and ohlins will mean i am throwing my wallet at things again :p

hahaha shut ur hole you ginger pisspot, my man i seem to remember that u have had trouble passing me when we were out on the gap:D....ok bairing in mind that it's only been 1 spin we've been out on i still class that as you haven't passed me 100% of the time....yeah i win.:headbang:

as to the finger in the hole and my pie belly and slow looking posture.....i assure you that my weight is an advantage and also it helps that i can touch the ground....with both feet, even stand up when i'm on my bike, unlike you with the little step ladder you carry around with you :nod::bootyshake:

eat my shit and enjoy it, ginger nuts![hr]

it's the stand he has the bike on is what i'm going to sort out so i can fit the shock without too many issues![hr][hr]

My brother from a nudda mutha, i put that up for you to buy what hes selling lol. It transforms a mille into a millie that can easily transport 50 litres of luggage with panache. Thats my new tueday word, panache, a word of French origin that carries the connotation of a flamboyant manner and reckless courage. Yes ventura, the thinking panachey mans choice...

When pulling the shock do this. Get a half inch threaded bar from a threaded bar shop or builders providers. Bout 3 to 4 foot.
Put the bike on the rear paddock stand.
Insert yer pipe through the swinger pivot hole.
Get your two car jack stands and position em under the rod as high as you can.
Drop the bike off the rear paddock stand carefully. Viola, the bikes now ready for shockectomy.
Because you were creative with the exhaust you may have to remove the wheel to get her out.

Or, you could just buy an abba stand thingymagiggy like yer man has.

To motivate you heres a pic of my old Charlene,

aaah me sees Mr Cutter of Toes, well i do have panniers and being skint hasn't helped with purchasing things. I'll check out all the threaded bar shops up here in the big smoke, apparently there are at least 17 of them to check out :p but yeah i'll defo pick up those bits to give her the shockectomy of her life!!!

on another note my shock problem isn't as bad as once thought, i noticed that .....well the rear tyre was .....ok a little on the soft side, from what i'm guessing is a slow ass puncture or air seeping out of the valve. I think this was propagating the pogo effect of the shock, i still think the shock is fecked but i shall be giving it a spin properly at the weekend and will see how she does....but for now, with the rear back up to normal opperating temp it's running ok, not great but ok.....gota sort out a new set of tyres for it....the front is looking like it's lacking rubber! I need to take it out later when its dark so i can see if the light is still facing up.

nice pics of Charleen there, have a bit to go before mine looks that flash!
