Just riding along the other day minding my own buisness, then i noticed my speedo needle was slightly bouncing a tiny bit, then next time i looked at it, it said 40ks while doing about 100ks, again still bouncing.

now its completely dead, sometimes it will jump around but mostly just sits on zero.

any ideas? is it dead or can it be fixed, if so how?

what bike is it? if it's a RR then you'll need to replace your speedo drive nut.

it's a nylon nut that connects to the front sprocket to drive your speedo cable, they're about $5 from a bike shop.

before buying anything chek at the back of the dash and the other end at the front sprocket drive if everything is connected properly. mine did the same after i realised i forgot to tighten the stuffs in after pulling the bike apart.

My speedo went wild riding to from Adelaide to Victor Harbour jumping from 100km to 60km boucing like a mofo... took apart the speedo cable, cleaned it and lubed it.

Runs smoothly now :)

Like you need an excuse :p

here it is anyway:- Mate your speedo is cactus, you will have to go out and buy a koso rx2n, and just to be polite, you should buy one for the guy that gave you the excuse

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT MINE HAS DONE!!!

Working fine, then bouncing, then dead. All in a few hours.

Can anyone explain further what I am looking for / how I go about replacing the nut / maintaining the cable??

It all looks attached to the back of the gauge fine. Haven't followed the cable back under the fairing yet though?

Any more advice would be appreciated!!
