Splined bolt heads, in head of engine?

My MC22 engine is pretty fubar'd at the moment, as I suspect one of the exhaust valves on the 4th cylinder gave up on life. Oddly enough, the engine still ran but with a bunch of top end noise. Anyway, while I wait around for an MC22 engine to crop up (haven't called any wreckers yet) I thought I'd inspect the damage and tally up the costs of an engine refurb.

The problem currently is the cam gear train and a bunch of bolts inside the head area have splined heads. Does anyone know where this socket would be available from?

what do the look like? Just a 12 sided bolt head

(double hex)
or something like this

(external torx)

Bunnings will have a socket to fit either.

yeah its a 8mm dodecogon. i followed the manual at first and got a 7mm. such a pain in the ass. what about the two attachment bolts under the cam gears? anyone have any tips on how to remove that? also, something hilarious happened with those two bolts. yesterday, i tried a 9mm in there and it fits, but today only a 10mm fits. i'm so confused about that
